Happy Birthday to Me
That’s right, plonkee money is one year old today.
In honour of this auspicious occasion, I’m throwing open the comment sections for your questions.
Is there anything you would like to know about personal finance, but can’t quite be bothered to find out?
Is there something you’ve been dying to ask me, but weren’t quite sure if it was relevant?
Have you always wanted to know what the English think on some issue, but were too polite to ask?
Whatever question you have*, say it here before Friday 29th February and I will publicly answer all questions put to me within a week.
*small print: no swearing, it’s not big, and it’s not clever
Happy Birthday to Plonkee Money!!!
Happy Blogoversary, Plonkee!!!
I have a question - can you more thoroughly explain what chartership is? I’ve inferred the basic gist but am curious since it’s one of your big goals and I’m rooting for you.
Thanks, and have a wonderful day!
Congrats on the one year mark. My year mark is actually in a couple of days as well. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long though. Keep it up.
Happy Birthday Plonkee Money!!!!!
Congratulations on hitting the one year mark!
Hi plonkee. Happy Birthday!
I do have a question about ISA’s. If you currently have a cash ISA and want to open a new one at one of these advertised better rates do you have to close the old one and transfer the money out, or do you leave the money in the old one and open a new one in April (?) as I know you can’t have 2 in the same year.
Wow! A Year already? Happy birthday. Been a fan from the start. Keep it up.
Happy Birthday…wow, 1 year…that’s a big accomplishment.
Happy Birthday Plonkee Money! I know they are probably not yours but I love the Moomins on the cake stand! I don’t have any specific questions but if you have any great ideas on the best way an expat can save, when they hope to move back in a few years and don’t want to get dinged by lots of charges moving money, I’d love to hear it! Other than that, just keep up the great work, I really enjoy your blog.
Congrats and keep up the great work!
Mike
@plonkee
Happy Birthday!!! Great work. Feel free to investigate UK Ethical Funds as I am a bit interested in that. I keep meaning to my own blog… But, the usual excuses come up! Maybe I should beg to do a guest post to see how crap I really can produce stuff.
@CFO
Chartership I got a few years ago myself in some engineering rubbish Basically there are two meanings to it. One, the cynical, is you pay more and therefore it is good for the Institution in question. Two, the theoretical, means you have a certain basic level of competence, experience etc and agree with the basic ideals of that Institution. Its basically Membership. And sometimes they have higher memberships… Like Fellow (which I really should apply for) that lets you pay more (again) and indicates a higher level of competence, responsibility and experience.
Unless of course I got it all wrong
@no more spending
The key date is April 5th.
You can only open and contribute to one cash ISA in a year. If you want one of the new ones, then either
1. next year open a new one and start contributing then, and maybe transfer your exisiting Cash ISA in if they let you.
2. this year see if you can open a new Cash ISA by transferring your current one - they will have appropriate forms to assist the transfer.
The dreaded Llama strikes again!
Ok… me again!
What is with the ZOPA? You use it? Any details? You have the link on this page!
I am sure my clear as mud explanations earlier will need reexplaining :p
Strike 2!
I’ll think of something. But Micah already grilled you.
Many happy returns!!
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great day and year.
Hmmm a question? Let me think.
In the USA we have this game called “Truth or Dare”. You can either ask the person a question, or dare them to do something.
Is this kind of like that? I guess it’s just the Truth part of the game. So I’ll go with Truth.
Tell us one truth about yourself that you haven’t told your fellow bloggers yet.

Congrats Plonkee. You are doing so well! Come visit every once in awhile!
Happy Birthday!
And here’s to celebrating many more birthdays.
Best regards
Congrats on one year!
Happy Blogging Birthday Plonkee! Here’s to many more.
Just to let you know that I’ll be answering the questions so far in a post that’ll go up on Monday morning. If anyone wants to add some more, I’ll answer them later in the week.
Happy Birthday, Plonkee! Hope all your other blogging projects will reach this type of success and milestone!
Congratulations on the PF blogging success!

Ok, weird qeustion of the day, what is “plonkee?”
Congrats, plonkee!
Didn’t think I had questions, now I’ve got 2:
1st: how long should you/do you need to keep financial records in the UK? (both actual bank statements and the like, and stuff like gas bills)
2nd: What’s the deal with “tax-free, with-profits savings plans from friendly societies” (eg, http://www.scottishfriendly.co.uk/regular/). Flyers come with union and professional magazine subscriptions, and when I’ve looked at them, they seem a bit dud. Are they really? (should qualify why I think they’re rubbish, maybe: that they’re an investment product with insurance, which I think is always a bad sign, plus, that they’re marketing their tax-free allowance status, but to lower-middle class people who’d probably remain under the CGT threshold if they invested more directly in stocks and shares (eg guaranteed equity bond), than through these products.). Seriously, what am I missing here?!
